The Movie That Inspired Me. Great movie that gave me so much – dog’s name, life lessons, and now an opportunity to share my thoughts on it with you.

Planning Fit Life, Fitting Plans in Life

“By failing to prepare, you are preparing to fail.” ― Benjamin Franklin. Having a goal is the start of any new fitness journey. Achieving it starts with planning for success.It&r...

About 12 years ago I had a litter from my beloved dog Beatrice, a beautiful Rottweiler from a World Champion bloodline. She was a show dog, had a great temper and was extremely smart, hardworking, and loyal.

I had a wall of fame full of her awards for 1st places and Best in Breed. Of course, I decided to keep a puppy from her. When puppies were born, I picked the biggest and strongest male. He was perfect. But I could not come up with a name that would match his personality and genetics.

Then one night I watched the move that mesmerized me. It was “Gladiator “with Russel Crowe. A wonderful epic Ancient Roman historic drama masterpiece that tells a history about General Maximus who leads the Roman legions to the battles and then gets betrayed, loses everything, and is sold into slavery, only to fight his way a gladiator.

I am sure most of you watched this movie. So, when I watched the scene when the crowd is chanting his name “Maximus, Maximus, Maximus” I immediately picked a name for my new puppy. He became my Maximus. He lived for 10 years, I gave him a very good life, he went to obedience school and Police Academy school, he was walking with me in -4F in the winter with ice on his paws, he was my running buddy, my true companion, and my best friend.

He was just what Maximus must be – confident, calm, smart, strong, emotionally, and physically healthy and very loyal. He lived up to his name. I watched this movie many times over the years and every time I learned something new – about leadership, team work, never giving up and building strength.

All these qualities are needed in sport and fitness. If you want to win you need to listen to your coach and do what is best for the team. You need to accept a role your coach sees you today and swallow your pride. If you fall – you get up and keep going. You need to believe in yourself, so others can believe in you and follow you.

You also need to accept when you lose, so you can look back and learn from it. And you need to have love in your life - for your family, for your Country. If you remember when Maximus was dying his was coming back to re-unite with the family, he lost.

Great movie that gave me so much – dog’s name, life lessons, and now an opportunity to share my thoughts on it with you.
